EV Charge — Privacy policy

Effective date: 2026-09-07

EV Charge (Android package ie.strix.app.evcharge) is provided by Joe Desbonnet. For privacy questions or support, contact jdesbonnet@gmail.com.

Your records

EV Charge stores the vehicle details, charging station names, charging times, energy, costs, currency, odometer readings, notes and preferences you enter in local app storage. It does not require an account and contains no advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs. The app has no Internet permission and does not send these records to Joe Desbonnet or a developer-operated server. The developer does not sell or have access to your records.

Optional location

When you choose “Use current location”, EV Charge requests a one-time foreground location fix to help identify a nearby saved charging station. Android lets you grant precise or approximate location. Precise location helps distinguish stations close together; approximate access is accepted. You can refuse access and select a station manually. EV Charge does not track journeys or request background location access. Requests stop when you leave the screen.

Coordinates obtained this way may be stored with a charging record or a station you create or update. Those coordinates remain part of your records and may be included in backups and exports. You can change or revoke permission in Android Settings at any time.

Android backups and device transfers

Android automatic backup is enabled. Depending on your device, system settings and backup provider, Android may copy the app’s records and preferences, including saved coordinates, to your system backup account or transfer them to another device. These operations are performed by Android, not by an EV Charge server, and are governed by the relevant backup provider’s privacy policy and your system settings. Manage backups and their deletion in your device or backup account settings. Joe Desbonnet cannot access these backups.

CSV exports and imports

You can explicitly export all vehicle, station and charging records, including saved coordinates and notes, to a CSV file and choose a recipient using Android’s share sheet, such as an email or cloud-storage app. That provider may upload the file under its own terms and privacy policy. The exported CSV is not encrypted by EV Charge. Share or store it only where you intend. Import reads the CSV file you select to restore or merge your records. The developer does not receive these files.

Retention and deletion

Local records remain until you delete them, replace them during an import, clear the app’s storage, or uninstall the app. You can delete individual charges, stations or vehicles in the app; deleting a vehicle also deletes its charges. Deleting a station does not delete associated charges or coordinates already stored on them. To remove all local app data, use Android Settings → Apps → EV Charge → Storage → Clear storage. There is no online account to delete.

Deleting local data does not necessarily delete earlier Android backups or exported CSV files. Delete those separately using the backup or document provider. Restoring a backup can restore its records. We cannot delete files or backups that you control.

External links and contact

Opening the hosted privacy policy uses your browser. GitHub Pages and your browser may process ordinary web request information under their own privacy policies. Emailing support shares your email address and message with the developer and email providers; these messages are used to respond to your request and retained only as needed for support. Please avoid sending charging records or precise coordinates unless needed for your support request.

Audience and changes

EV Charge is intended for adult vehicle owners and is not directed at children. Changes to this policy will be published here with an updated effective date.
